As Read By Me
If you are a writer and would like to read your work on an upcoming episode, please email us at writers@asreadbyme.com.
Important Info for Writers Contributing to ARBM:
Thank you for contributing to As Read By Me! The mission of our podcast is to expose writers to new audiences, and audiences to new writers/content. We are very aware that without writers to read their work, we have no show. So, with that in mind, we want you to have the absolute best possible experience when contributing to our podcast. Please review the info below thoroughly and let us know if there’s anything additional we can do to make you feel more comfortable when we record your work.
Recommendations for the best sounding read:
- Try a few rehearsal reads of your piece(s) in the days leading up to your recording.
- Avoid dairy foods and beverages before doing your recording, if possible.
- Avoid thicker/darker beverages before recording, if possible. Water is best. And many professionals swear by hot water and honey as a great pre-voice-performance drink.
- Please bring a printed version of your story to read in our vocal booth. And print it larger than normal, if it will improve your ability to read it smoothly. FYI, we have tried writers reading from laptops before, but find we can hear even the quietest ones in the final recording. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can email your story to writers@asreadbyme.com and we will print and have ready for your session. And if you absolutely object to the paper waste, you can read from a phone or iPad in airplane mode.
What the writer gets:
- Exposure to a new audience.
- Finished edited pieces in mp3/wav format, for any use, forever.
- Bragging rights on being “published” on a new platform.
- The collective social media, and real world, promotion of all the producers, writers and listeners who contribute and listen to As Read By Me.
What we get:
- A great piece of audio content for our audience.
- Permission to use your reading of your piece in our podcast.
- Additional promotion of our show, should you chose to promote it, to your existing audience.
You retain ownership of your work:
By reading your work for the As Read By Me podcast, you are only agreeing to allow us to use the recording of your voice in our podcast. You shall always retain the copyright to your story. We will gladly publish the text on our website, with your permission, but we are primarily interested in an audio recording of YOU reading your work. Many tech observers are predicting that the trend that audio is going to be an extremely popular medium of content in the next few years, so having this content for yourself may pay dividends in the future. We provide you a clean, edited studio quality audio file of your reading that you can use for your own purposes, in any way you like, in perpetuity.
COVID Safety Policy for Recording Sessions:
Our home/studio has a steady mix of vaccinated and unvaccinated visitors. If you have concerns about your own health in this environment, we will, at your request, make sure everyone wears masks for the duration of your recording session. We can also make additional efforts to schedule your recording for a time when there will be the fewest people in the building as possible. Your comfort level during the recording process is an important part of the final product. If you would like special accommodations for your personal health concerns, just let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate. And if you are not 100% comfortable, we’ll be happy to wait and schedule your recording for a date/time/season in the future when you feel it is more safe. We will be here and be happy to record you whenever feels best for you.
